Historical Background

Ɛnnɛ yɛ anigyeda (Today is a day of joy) for SATB chorus was composed in 1931. It was originally arranged for men’s voices at the Seminary Training College where Amu was working at the time. Ɛnnɛ yɛ anigyeda composed for Empire Day, when staff and students had a feast together. Lyrics of this and the Eʋe version show slight differences in the English translations.
